Disappointing Parachute`

Kia Ora Bloggers

For or inquiry this term we have been working on engineering and our task was to answer some questions and this is it. We used String 2 bolts Green fabric cut on corners. We had a fairly big parachute it was 40 cm long and 32 cm wide we made it fairly big because that increases drag, and it will fall slower. We thought that we should add more fabric on the top but we realised that would make it heavier. Our design fell in 1.05 seconds, which isn't very good.  Here are some pictures.

We added more fabric on the bottom of the parachute so it keeps its shape.  When falling. We saw it fall slower, before we changed it it fell in 1 sec .5 when we changed it it fell in 2.00 seconds. We changed it one more time and added more fabric 1.44 it did bad so we took the new fabric off.

If you have ever skydived please comment down below what the parachute was made out of

  1. Kia ora Sree,

What an interesting title for your blog post. I am wondering why you felt it was disappointing? Your blog post itself doesn't elaborate on this.

I found your understanding of drag to be quite in-depth and I enjoyed reading the about the reason you added more fabric to the parachute in order to solve the problem you were having. I wonder if the weight of the fabric was a factor?

I'm sorry, I've never skydived before. I think the material they use is quite light though, and very large to the size of a human. I wonder if there is a connection between these two things? What do you think?

Keep up the great learning and blogging,
