Brilliant Book Creator

Kia Ora. For our literacy for the last few days we have been working on poems and making one. Our task was to make a rhyming poem on docs and then make that into a creative book. For this task we used an app called Book Creator, it is a really easy to use app and it looks really good. Out topic was about 2020 and different aspects of it and how the years has gone. Here it is.

Great Google Earth-Sri Lanka

Vanakkam welcome to Sri Lanka. For the past few weeks we have been working on information reports and we had to make an information report on a a country. First we had to be in buddies and make and information report on New Zealand. For the format we used google earth. Its a website that lets you go anywhere in the world and you can make projects. After New Zealand we chose our own country and we made an information report. The country that I chose was Sri Lanka. Here it is

Master Maori

For our inquiry we have been working on Maori culture and all about it. One thing we had to do was pick one of the three topics. Korowai, Ta Moko, and Haka. My buddy and I chose to do Haka. We had to do present and past about Use, Design, and presentation. We had to research on some websites and grab the information out of it that is important. And then make a slide showing all the information we learned.

Crazy Crystals

For our literacy for the past few weeks we have been working on cool experiments. one of those experiments was making and growing crystals. We did multiple types of crystals. We did borax, salt and sugar. They have grown really well. On that subject we had to have a cool way of showing what we have learned so me and my group decided to do it on canva. Most of it was someone in my group but the others helped with the information. here it is.

Tremendous Time

For our math the last few weeks we have been working on Time and 24 hour time. We had to a lot of stuff on mine craft education edition. One of the tasks we had to do was make a table that shows 3 movies their run time and then what time they start. And then you had to ask someone else to work out at what time would they leave the cinema.

Magical Maths

Ice Science

For our writing the last few weeks we have been working on experiments that include melting ice. And this week we worked on what powder could eat away at ice the quickest. We knew that salt sprinkled at ice would melt it. Part of that was making a doc with a wondering, hypothesis, materials, variables, procedure, observations/results and conclusion. We did the experiment and somehow salt did it the quickest. here is my working out.

Super Spark

Oil is in and around our world, even in places you wouldn’t imagine. We use oil for cooking but we also use crude oil. The pumping and transporting of crude oil around the globe often have environmental effects. We have looked at various texts and videos to learn about some of these effects, and it ‘good’ timing as there was a recent oil spill (24 July 2020) in Mauritius that we could investigate. Disappointing Parachute`

For or inquiry this term we have been working on engineering and our task was to answer some questions and this is it. We used String 2 bolts Green fabric cut on corners. We had a fairly big parachute it was 40 cm long and 32 cm wide we made it fairly big because that increases drag, and it will fall slower. We thought that we should add more fabric on the top but we realised that would make it heavier. Our design fell in 1.05 seconds, which isn't very good.  Here are some pictures.

We added more fabric on the bottom of the parachute so it keeps its shape.  When falling. We saw it fall slower, before we changed it it fell in 1 sec .5 when we changed it it fell in 2.00 seconds. We changed it one more time and added more fabric 1.44 it did bad so we took the new fabric off.

Awesome Algebra

For math this term we have been learning on algebra and all about it. We worked on graphs. Today we had a relationship graph. Our task was to make a relationship graph but we could choose the topic. Rickety Rocket

For our inquiry this term we have been working on space. We had to do a Tic Tac Toe/ Knots and crosses of three different things. One of the things I picked was making a rocket. Spatial Number Patterns

Kia ora bloggers for this week he have been working on spatial and number patterns. We worked on doing input and output. Our task was to think of an input and output and everyone else tries to guess what the rule is. We made a an animation on google slides that showed a robot talking about our question. We had to make the input come out of one side of the robot and the output out the other side. Here is our wonderful presentation

Aurora Australis

For our Friday the last week of term we are working on the northern and southern lights. It would definitely be on my bucket list as it is one of the most beautiful things in the world. There are lots of different myths around the world of what it is and how it is caused but the real one is that it is little parts of the sun coming off only a few go through the magnetosphere. Pleasant Pattern

For our maths this week we worked on patterns and how to figure out the rule. Today we had to make our own pattern digitally or using multi-link cubes. Marvelous Matariki

For the past few Fridays we have been working on the one and only Matariki. We had multiple choices of how we want to show our learning and me and my partner chose to do a sock puppet. We had to make a script of who says what, We had to research about Matariki and its story and much more. I think overall I could have done a few things better but It is good. Great Questions

When reading a book, have you ever been curious about something you were reading, and wanted to find out more to help you understand what you were reading better?  We have been learning about how important this is this week in Literacy.

When we read The Magic School Bus inside the human body’ I formed some advanced questions using ‘how’ and ‘why’.  I made sure they were open ended questions that would help me understand the book more.  An example of one of my questions was “Why are intestines coiled up?’ and I then researched and found out that an adults intestine is 7.5m long, so it needs to coil up so that it fits in the body.

Next we got to chose our own book to read out of our virtual library and we had to form 3 advanced questions about it.  Our create task this week was to share these in a creative way.  I chose to do it with Google Drawing and it was about a book called ‘Wild boy. Here are my queestions

How is ADHD caused to people?

How long is the coastline of new zealand and how long does it take to go across

How sharp are the horns of bulls and can they kill someone

ADHD is caused by genetic factors with your parents. The cause is exactly not found yet

The entire coastline of New Zealand is estimated at around 15,000 KM. It takes around 14 days to go around the north and south island.

Bull Horns are known to be razor sharp and deadly enough to kill someone in one stab. Bull have killed over 15 people recorded over the years.

I really enjoyed this task as it made me realise how important it is to do this when reading to understand the text better.

My fractured fairy tale

For our literacy our create task was to make a book cover of ours story on book creator. As my main story I picked the three little pigs but put my own spin on it. Mine is about three little big boys and the small bad boy. It was about how the small boy is a big bully and punches everyone. It is kind of connected to three little pigs. Here is my fantastic work

Annoying Angles

For the past few weeks for maths we have been working on angles. There are 5 types of  angles and they are, Acute, Right, Obtuse, Straight, and Reflex. All of them have a different degree of angles. Acute is anything below 90 degrees, right is exactly 90, obtuse is between 90 and 180, straight is 180, and reflex is between 120 and 360. Here is mine

Samoan Siapo

For the past few weeks we have been working on the Siapo. A Siapo is a Samoan known thing which is made out of the bark of the mulberry tree. It is made as a floor mat, gift at a wedding, and clothing. Our task was to make our own Siapo. Here is my Siapo.

It is supposed to look like a starfish in the water because of the dye in the background. It did not go like what I expected but I am still proud of it.

Ironic Comic

For today we have been working on ironic things. Being ironic has three different types. They are Situational, Verbal, and Dramatic. We had to make a comic with a partner of a situation of Ironicness, me and my partner chose the basic good old kid not doing his work. I think I did pretty well. Here is my fabulous, fantastic, unbeatable, work.

What you can see here is situational irony. It is the opposite of what you would think. Example: When a math teacher does worse than a kid in maths.

My comic is when one person is doing work and the other is on their device. And the kid doing work asks the other if he is doing work or not and he says yes but he actually isn't. And he is looking at backgrounds.

Panicked Pigs

For our literacy this week we have been working on fractured fairy tales. They are fractured becasue they are a bit broken and muddled. We had to make some writing about the book Three Little Pigs. We had to follow the 5 different settings. Background, Rising action, Climax, Falling action, and finally resolution. We had to make a castle because most fairy tales are based on castle's. We had to match the writing were it fit. I think I did pretty well. Here is my work

Extreme Angles

For numeracy today, we have started to learn about angles. 

We learnt about 3 different angles today - acute (less than 90°), right angle (90°), and obtuse (larger than 90° but smaller than 180°).  We also learnt how to use a protractor to measure angles.  We know that we need to measure an angle from a vertice (a corner where two straight lines meet).

For our create task, we had to measure three different angles on the first letter of our name - can you  figure out if they are acute, right angle or obtuse?

Lonely Larry

This week for literacy we have been learning about inferencing and show not tell.  When we read something, we automatically start making inferences, so it is important when we write that we give clues in our writing that allow people to make inferences.  We want to show them - not tell them.
For example:  Paul was frustrated when he got to the bus stop and realised he had just missed the bus.  But instead I could write “Running as fast as he could, Paul turned the corner only to see the back of the bus as it pulled away.  Throwing his bag down on the ground and sighing out loud, Paul realised that he had no choice, but to sit and wait for the next bus to arrive - 20 minutes from now”  You can infer from me saying ‘throwing his bag down and sighing out loud’ that he is frustrated.
Our task was to create a video that accompanied a piece of writing about an elderly man.  We used Adobe Spark to do this.

Great Finds

For numeracy this week, we have been learning about grid references and we have been working on 4 and 6 digit grid references.

We learnt that we read across the bottom of the grid first (Eastlings) and then up the side second (Northlings). 

Our task today was to look at an aerial map of our school, write down the 6 digit grid references for the letters that our teacher had put on it, and then go in hunt of those points.  At each point there was 1 or 2 letters.  Once we had them all, we had to come back into the hub and unscramble the letters to figure out what it spelt.  The secret sentence was ‘Happy Birthday Zoe’.

I really enjoyed the task.  Have you ever had to use grid references before in real life?  What was it for?

Filthy Twits

This week we have been looking carefully at making inferences when we read or watch something.

An inference is when we take clues from a text or image, and
add them to our thoughts or prior knowledge and make an inference.
For example,  when I look at this photo, I might make the inference that
this photo was taken in a food factory as everyone is wearing hair
nets and this is required in all food factories.

The text that we read a snippet out of was ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.
Once we had read the first few chapters where they described the main characters, Mr and Mrs Twit, we then had to make some inferences based on the clues that Roald Dahl had given in the text.

I used Google Draw to create a display of my inferences I have made about Mr and Mrs Twit.

Buggy Bees

For Numeracy this week we have been looking at compass directions.  We have worked on reading maps using the 8 main directions - North, South, East, West, North-East, South-East, North-West and South-West and then we moved onto using Bee bots and our knowledge of compass directions to get a Bee bot through the grid to various locations. We had to programme the Beebot with our own algorithm, using forwards, backwards, turn right, turn left and N, S, E, W.  It was important that we regularly tested our algorithm to check we didn’t need to de-bug (find a problem and fix it). I got a bug a few times but in the end I worked it out.

One of the algorithms I did was this. West 2 squares forward , turn left, south 2 squares forward , turn right, west 2 squares forward, turn left, south 2 squares.  And you are at the house.

Whacky Week

Kia ora Bloggers as it is our last week of distance learning it was Friday tasks and these are the three task I did the first one is math second is Friday task and last is my literacy. 

For maths we have been learning about volume and capacity. Volume is how much space something takes up and capacity is how much something can hold like a bucket of water.

In the end I think I did a good job and what I could have changed was made a different colour for the answers. Question At the end don't Forget

For our tech task for Friday we were supposed to imagine like we could make our dream room and then make it out of something like card. Because i did not have anything so I drew it out of paper. I know it is not my best quality but I did not have the most I could have because I did not have much time. I think overall it is okay.

For literacy for the past few weeks we have been focusing on the book called Going Solo by Roald Dahl. It is about Boy who is around 20 who goes to Africa to work for a company called shell. After that he joined the R.A.F to be a pilot in world war I.  We had to make a Biography about him and What you see is what I did. I think I did a pretty good Job

The Bravest

For out literacy we have been reading the book called going solo by Roald Dahl. It's about Boy who go's to Africa and joins RAF into world war 2 as a pilot for a gladiator. He has to go to a place called 8o Squadron. The chief gives him a location but when he arrives it is actually no Mans land and he doesn't have enough fuel to get back so he tries to do an emergency landing and hits a boulder and crashes face first in to thee ground. It is a good book and I very much would say you should read it.

Tricky Three

Kia Ora Bloggers for our week 4 activities we have been focusing on literacy maths and our Friyay tasks. As you can see there are three different images and the first one is literacy second on is Friyay and third one is maths. The literacy task was to create a suspense story on the book By Roald Dahl Called going solo. And there was a chapter called green mamba and that is what it was based on. That is my writing in the end.


Next is our Friday tasks and it was to make a plan of what it would look like if you had a garden. I did a survey of what the people in my bubbles favourite vegetable was and I got 2 broccoli, 1 carrot and, 1 spinach. I made a drawing of all of them and listed what all was in the picture and the end result is the second one.


last but not least is math and it was a creative task and it was to make our dream room/house. I chose my bedroom and this is what I came up with. I am quite a gamer so I have my setup there, Do not get confused and think that is a study area.

Perfect Pizza

Kia Ora Bloggers for Friday we had to do special activities instead of maths and literacy. And on activity was to create a food truck and this is what I did I made a a place about pizza called Ree Pizza which is ree because that is what all my friends at school call me for fun and so I did that. As you see there is pepperoni cheese and veg pizza. I know that this is not the best I can do but I did not have much time so I had to do this.

For our maths this week at home we have been learning all about perimeters and today's task was to make our name out of pixilart Here is a link to the website. As you know my name is Sree and this is what I did and for the perimeters we had to count how many squares we have used and my total in the end was 254 squares. I think that I did pretty well. Distance Learning Activities

For Our Distance Learning Starting This term we got A grid of the game called Cyber smart. The activity was to do three of the tasks and these are the three I did. The first one is to how you hold your Chromebook/Ipad. And you had to have two options. I think the two I have put down are correct, Myself I hold it closed and with two hands. The next one is list the most common passwords of The Year 2015. I think the video that I watched was very correct and got it spot on. As you can see obviously password is the most common used password and is the easiest for a hacker to guess. If one of these are your password please comment down below and I suggest changing it to something unique.


And Last but not even Least Is what do you do if you see  something that makes you feel uncomfortable. I listed down two things that you could do which could maybe make you feel better.

Discovering Documentary.

Kia Ora Bloggers For Friday's activities One of them I did was that you have to watch a documentary and then write about what you saw. I watched a Documentary about Serengeti and it's Animals. Serengeti Is a place in Africa that has a lot of Animals. I mainly saw one about Lions and lioness the King and Queen of the Jungle. Did you know Lions are the only Cats That Stay In groups Called Pride. I myself Found the Documentary Very interesting to watch If you want to watch it here is the Link. Puzzling Puzzle

Kia Ora Bloggers For Thursday for our lock down activities one of the activities was to finish a Jigsaw puzzle which is very tricky. As you can see I did one about gorillas  and it was only 35 pieces but It still took me over 12 minutes. I did get a hundred percent in the end and I felt good about myself. Super Sumdog

Kia Ora bloggers for our week activities for Covid 19 while staying home one of the activities I did for today was Sumdog. I did Sumdog because It said to do math playground but when I got onto it, It says it is blocked so instead I did Sumdog. I did an activity called Cannonball where you have to get the answer right and then you shoot a cannonball. My goal was to beat the leader board in my school which was 1190 and I got 1174 the first time and then next time I just really focused and got 1430. I was happy when I did it. Anzac Day Poster

Kia Ora Bloggers For this week  I was staying home because of Covid 19. We got a bunch of activities to do and one of them was make a poster for Anzac day and I chose that because I really like making posters. I chose to do it on Canva because it is a really fun website to use because of all of the apps features. This is what I made in the end and I think that it looks good. Perfect Pixilart

For our literacy we were using something called Pixilart What you can do on there is pretty cool. and our whole task was to make birds eye view of Auschwitz Concentration camp which is a place where the German people made Nazi's stay and do work. Just in Auschwitz there have been over a million deaths. Have you ever learned about Hitler or a concentration camp?

Cool Counting

Hello Everyone for Our Samoan language study that he have been doing every Wednesday we have learned how to greet and today we did a scratch which is a programming system and we did how to count from 1-10 in Samoan. We did what the teacher told us to because ourselves we did not know how to make it. I think I did pretty well on mine. If you have ever learned about another language what language is that?

Cool counting in Samoan

Talofa lava bloggers so far this term for language we have been learning how to say Samoan because Samoan is a very interesting language. Today we were learning how to count from 1 to 10 and it was very fun. I chose to do an animation on slide because I found out it would probably be the easiest one to do.  Kia Ora Bloggers For our literacy this term we were working on persuasive writing but today we decide to have a change and we did a poem which was quite fun to do because we got to create our own but the twist of the poem is that it is something naughty we have done in our life.
